Gardner 'Athletes'A team from Gardner & Co have raised over £10,000 for a leading cancer charity through various fundraising events, including 30-mile commemorative walk.

Richard Legge of Gardner & Co was inspired to take action to raise money for Cancer Research UK when his mother succumbed to the disease in 2013.

“My mother Margaret was such an inspiration to all who knew her that we were determined to raise funds for research into cures for cancer,” says Richard.

The Gardner & Co team of ten people walked 30 miles in 6 loops near Margaret’s home. On the last loop they stopped at all the pubs on the route, in a tribute to Margaret who was herself owner of a well-known pub in the area.

“The vast majority of our team were not natural athletes,” explains Richard. “So this was a genuine challenge for all of us.” However, everyone finished the course, and they have managed to beat their target of £5,000 for the charity. Richard’s page on the website Just Giving is still live. If you would like to make a further donation, please click here.
